London Academy of Excellence Stratford (LAE) passes the milestone of 100 Oxbridge
offers

LAE’s students have broken records for the 5th year running, with 37 students, almost

half of this year’s applicants, receiving offers to study at Cambridge and Oxford

colleges in 2020.
 

This year’s offers cover a huge range of academic disciplines, such as Classics, Land

Economy, Theology, Maths, Geography and History and Politics, as well as the most

competitive courses including Medicine, Law, PPE and Economics.
 

Coming swiftly after the school’s record breaking 2019 A-Level results of 93% A*-B

and 65% A*-A, these offers represent another high point for the school. Chair of

Governors, Barnaby Lenon, noted that "the results confirm the fact that the

London Academy of Excellence is one of the most successful schools in England."
 

LAE’s Headteacher, Scott Baker said “I am thrilled for our students who have worked

so hard, and I’m pleased to see LAE at the forefront of efforts to improve widening

participation and access to elite universities. I am grateful to our teachers, donors,

HSBC and partner schools who have all contributed to this success, and it is also

important to recognise the work that Cambridge and Oxford have put in to help

address access issues.”
 

Assistant Head, Anushka Chakravarty, who oversees preparation for early applicants

said “I am delighted that the hard work of so many students has been rewarded,

and that they have received the offers that they hoped for. Our conversion rate for

applications to offers is more than double the Oxbridge average of 21%.”
 

Receiving offers is only half the story though, and Deputy Head, Claudia Harrison,

said “We are greatly encouraged by the percentage of LAE students going on to

meet their offers - last year, we received 26 offers and sent 25 students to Oxford and

Cambridge. For this year’s cohort, the real work begins now, and we wish them

every success.”
