LAE is proud to offer an education within the state sector, to young people living in one of the most disadvantaged parts of the UK that is equal to that provided by some of the UK’s leading independent schools.
Eliminating educational disadvantage and ensuring that all talented young people, irrespective of background, can access our best higher education institutions is hugely important to this country, from both a social and an economic point of view. The education and opportunities that we are able to provide to our students are life-changing and our results are evidence that, with the right resources and support, we can ensure that background need not be a barrier to educational success.
However, we are only able to provide these opportunities with the support of our donors and partners. To do so, we spend roughly £1500 per pupil per year more than we receive from the government.
Donations that we receive help us to meet the core running costs of our school, but within this, there is also scope to allocate funds to support projects within the following areas:
- Healthier Students: Better Mental Health and Wellbeing
- Academic Excellence
- Community Partnerships: Raising Aspirations for the Younger Generations

Friends of LAE
If you are one of the many who care about helping young people overcome educational disadvantage, we invite you to become a Friend of LAE Stratford.
We are asking for donations of £1500 (or £1200 with Gift Aid) each year for two years to cover the funding gap between what the government provides, and what we spend to provide our students with a world-class education.
This includes everything from laboratory equipment, trips to museums and universities, to books and bursaries for our most disadvantaged students.
If you would like to find out more about becoming a Friend, please email Mark Chadwick via firstname.lastname@example.org.
Corporates and Trusts
The generosity of several trusts and companies, HSBC in particular, has enabled us to provide extensive high-impact opportunities for our students.
For example, we are in the unique position of having three academics in residence that stretch and support our students in mathematics, chemistry and biology. The funding for these posts was generously provided by the Robertson Foundation.
If you would like to hear more about how your organisation can invest in education to improve social mobility, please email Mark Chadwick via email@example.com
Major gifts have an enormous impact on our work, and on the lives of our students.
If you are interested in discussing a major gift, please contact Mark Chadwick via firstname.lastname@example.org
