French Language Assistant
London Academy of Excellence (LAE) is seeking to appoint a fluent speaker of French to the post of Foreign Language Assistant for six hours per week. LAE is in an Outstanding, heavily oversubscribed school located in the heart of Stratford, close to the Olympic Park and just two minutes from Stratford Station (zone 2/3), with excellent links to all parts of London.
LAE is the top ranked sixth form provider in England to offer a full A level curriculum, according to the Sunday Times Parent Power Survey 2022. The school is particularly proud of its success helping students from disadvantaged backgrounds to gain places at the finest universities in the UK and around the world. Over 1,200 of our alumni have progressed to a Russell Group university and over 120 to Oxford or Cambridge.
The role of the assistant is to conduct one-to-one conversation lessons in the target language with our A-level linguists and support the development of resources in the Modern Foreign Languages department. The ideal candidates should have a keen interest in education and willingness to develop students’ confidence and ability to communicate in the target language. They should also be familiar with the A Level curriculum in French (LAE students are taught the AQA specification).
Ideally, the appointed candidates would be available to work for three hours each Friday afternoon, and 1.5 hours on each of Monday and Tuesday. Alternately, the appointed candidate could work three hours on both Monday and Friday afternoons. This role would ideally suit candidates studying for a degree in French, or those with experience of tutoring or teaching French in the past.
LAE can offer you:
- The opportunity to gain experience of teaching and working with highly motivated students in one of the country’s leading sixth form schools.
- An intellectually stimulating working environment characterised by a culture of professional trust and collegiate working that promotes autonomy, innovation, and rigour.
- A modern and positive learning environment minutes from the Olympic Park and Stratford Station.
- A package of employee benefits including access to a Cycle Scheme, Tech Scheme, and discounted local gym memberships.
LAE is a diverse and inclusive school, committed to supporting staff and students to be themselves and succeed on merit.
