LAE Mathematics Scholarship

This scholarship, worth up to £500, will be awarded to students who show exceptional prior attainment in mathematics, as well as outstanding potential in the problem-solving skills required for A level mathematics, further mathematics and university level mathematics.  Up to 10 scholarships may be awarded in each year group depending on the quality of the mathematics in the cohort.

Requirements

In order to become a Maths Scholar, students will have:

  1. Exceptional prior attainment: Maths GCSE grade 9
  1. Outstanding potential:  As well as the first Half Term Assessment, students wishing to become maths scholars will sit a problem solving exam in early September following enrolment. The top scorers will be interviewed, and scholarships will be awarded at the end of the first half term of year 12.

To be considered for a maths scholarship, students must choose to study maths and further maths at A level. Furthermore, to continue on the scholarship programme into year 13, students must keep further maths for both years and apply to study one of the following courses at university: mathematics, computer science, engineering or physics.

Students may also be selected for the programme at the start of year 13 if there are fewer than 10 maths scholars in their year. The student must have shown potential to achieve an A* in further maths and must be applying for a mathematics or computer science course at university.
