Library Coordinator – Job Description

Reporting to: Assistant Head (Academic) & Business Director as a member of the support staff

Hours: 08.00am – 5.00pm Monday to Friday during term time.

Salary: GR7 £26,750 - £29,000 (£23,280 - £25,239 pro rata) depending on qualifications, skills and experience                                          

 

Location Stratford, Newham, London

Type of position Term time plus 2 weeks

 

Hours 40 hours per week. There is a need to be flexible about hours in order to carry out the duties and responsibilities effectively.

The postholder must be in school for the exam results in August.

 

Key Responsibilities and core activities of the role

 

  1. Ensuring sixth formers’ and teachers’ successful use of learning resources, particularly the library, including:
  • promote and maintain a safe, silent and productive library space;
  • ensuring that successful study happens in the library, including the use of computers laptops and study spaces;
  • taking the register and following up absences of sixth formers timetabled into the library for study periods;
  • monitoring sixth formers’ attendance, punctuality and learning when timetabled into the library for study periods;
  • managing behaviour of sixth formers in the library to ensure a purposeful learning environment;
  • developing and managing the learning resources in the library including regular auditing, ordering and organising of resources;
  • liaising with lead teachers in order to produce independent study packs to support student learning;
  • ensuring that the library is central to learning at LAE;
  • consider sustainable ways of increasing use of the library;
  • working with all stakeholders to promote and develop the library;
  • managing a library budget.
  1. Promoting reading and research to students and staff across school, by:
  • taking responsibility for promoting a love of reading across the school through initiatives that may include book clubs, “I am currently reading…” posters and promoting podcasts and documentaries.
  • plan and deliver events that celebrate reading and research, including world bank day, visiting authors and poets, recitals and discussion groups;
  • signpost student opportunities that relate to reading and research, including taster events and university seminars.
  1. Developing and leading a research skills curriculum, by

 

  • administering the study skills programme (“the mini EPQ”) for the new Year 12, in partnership with the Learning and Languages Coach (LLC), the Academic Literacy Coordinator and the Assistant Head (Academic);
  • prompting subject teachers to develop research-based learning tasks;
  • identifying exemplary activity in this area (for example, in partner schools and universities) and bringing best practice to LAE.
  1. Leading and coordinating the Extended Project Qualification (EPQ), by

 

  • managing the organisation of the EPQ (any necessary training will be provided);
  • supporting individual sixth formers in their research and completion of the EPQ;
  • supporting supervisors in their role.
  1. Other responsibilities

    Supporting students with applications to international universities.

     

  • Promoting student voice and the school council.
  • Running the lecture programme.
  • Taking on the academic literacy programme.
  • Supporting Learning Coach with some of the study skill support.

The role has the following additional responsibilities, in common with all staff at LAE:

 

  • providing support and guidance to sixth formers and fulfilling all the necessary requirements of being a pastoral tutor;
  • contributing fully to LAE’s co-curricular programme of activities.
  • taking a share of the duties around sixth former supervision;
  • providing cover for absent colleagues, and participating in arrangements for sixth formers’ supervision during public examinations;
  • participating in recruitment events such as Open Evenings and Interview Days, some of which take place after 17.25 on weekdays or at weekends;
  • when appropriate, attending meetings between House Tutors and parents / carers and / or providing any information required for such meetings;
  • communicating with teachers and SLT promptly, proactively, and whenever possible in person (rather than by email);
  • being committed to one’s own professional development and identifying and responding to one’s own training needs;
  • any other reasonable duties, as requested by SLT.
